Trusting the Prince

I need business help. I love what I do, but I suck at doing all the official business side that makes me an official business. So I’ve gone back to the Prince’s Trust.

When I say back, I do mean I tried it once before when I was 18/19, but I really was not experienced in.. Well, anything. In fact, here is a picture of my first ‘model’ shoot at 18. Urgh. Hideous.

Anyway, back to my point. I just didn’t feel like I knew enough about photography to actually give it a go as a business. So I stepped back, got myself some experience behind me, then go back. Five years later, I finally feel I’m as close as I’m going to get to becoming official. I’ve got the work, I’ve got the t-shirts (literally), now I just need the advice!

For those who may not be aware, the Prince’s Trust is an organisation that helps young people either start their business, or get into education or work. They do quite a bit to help those with business ideas, such as a low interest loan and a business mentor. The latter is what I need the most, but if I can get the funding? Bonus.

But before they even begin that process, I had to attend a course in which someone from the Prince’s Trust gave us the basics of running a business, just to give us an idea of what needed to be included in our businesses, from marketing, pricing and *shudder* taxes. However, for a four day short course on such an expansive topic, it was really informative. So. Many. Notes.

After this course, we were to be assigned someone from the Trust to take us through our business plan. I do still have the basis of my last one from years ago, but I have a funny feeling it’s going to be much easier just to restart it. I’ve also got to have a cash flow forecast for my business. And the number crunching is the part that I just struggle with. Gal’s got so many invoices to catch up on! Better get on that..

The week is now over though, and I have a shit tonnes of notes to get through. There is also a booklet, but I’m not overly sure how much of that I could personally fill in. I’ll give it a go, because, hey! Why not?

Right, I’ll end this here for now, as I have about 157,395,078,473,645 things to get done. I thought I would make a brief post about what I got up to this week. Also, fun fact: I was meant to do this in July, but I ended up doing the Pyramid Head shoot instead… Priorities, yay!
